Born an Englishman, but an adopted New Yorker, Antony Hegarty matured his artistic identity in Manhattan's undersoil by wandering between the avant-garde and cabaret in the Nineties. There he was flagged down by Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed, who went on to become his guardian angels. It's difficult not to notice him: a white voice with an androgynous appearance. These are elements which soon made him into a transgender icon. On the discographic level he thus far has two albums to his name, the most recent of which is the extremely acclaimed I Am a Bird Now (2005), as well as having performed as a guest star in many work, among which recently in Bjork's Volta.
